ECAC Curriculum and Assessment

Curriculum

Bloomsbury School District uses Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum as the foundation for their preschool program.

The Creative Curriculum represents a comprehensive, research-driven, and play-oriented methodology for education, emphasizing innovative techniques to impart knowledge and concepts to learners. This curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to foster the growth of essential skills in children, including self-assurance, imaginative thinking, and analytical abilities. It operates under the fundamental principle that young learners thrive when engaging in hands-on exploration and interaction with their surroundings.

By integrating various creative strategies, the curriculum not only enriches the educational experience but also encourages students to take an active role in their learning journey. This dynamic approach is designed to cultivate a sense of curiosity and a desire for discovery, empowering children to navigate their world with confidence and critical thinking. Through structured play and exploration, the Creative Curriculum supports holistic development, ensuring that children build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Assessment

Preschool classroom implements the Teaching Strategies GOLD framework to track and document the growth and development of young learners throughout the academic year. The GOLD framework emphasizes various developmental areas, including Social-Emotional, Physical, Language, Cognitive, Literacy, Mathematics, and English Language Acquisition.

The GOLD Objectives for Development and Learning are designed to align with the New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards as well as the Tools of the Mind Curriculum. Through careful observation and documentation of each student’s development and learning, educators can effectively support, guide, and adapt their instruction. The rating scale reflects a child’s strengths, needs, and interests, informed by developmental milestones, and serves as a valuable resource for identifying students who may require additional assistance.
