Bloomsbury Gifted and Talented Program

The Bloomsbury School District offers a pull-out Gifted and Talented program which satisfies
your child’s need for academic enrichment experiences beyond those already provided in the
classroom.

Students will work in fun, creative ways to enhance their skill sets in areas such as academic
learning, leadership, STEM, growth mindset, communication, research, creative thinking, and
problem solving. Students will take part in a Gifted and Talented class once a week.

Grade level expectations and workloads for students change annually. Therefore, student
participation in Gifted and Talented classes will be re-evaluated on a yearly basis. Our goal is to
provide the educational programming that is most beneficial for each student’s academic growth
and success.

The following criterion need to be met for entry into the G&T program: intellectual, academic,
creative, or leadership:

a) Intellectual – a minimum of one criterion must be met
Full scale IQ at or above 125 based on the Kaufman Intelligence Test
Aptitude test at or above the 90th percentile

b) Academic – a minimum of two criteria must be met:
Achievement test score in the exceeds expectations range
Documentation of exceptional classroom performance through data (benchmarks, grades)
Other evidence of academic giftedness (endorsed by classroom teachers)

c) Creativity – recommendation by faculty and staff with letters and examples.

d) Leadership – a minimum of two criteria must be met:
Student generated evidence of leadership activity within the classroom when age appropriate.
Once the initial screening and evaluation are complete, parents will be notified of their child’s
status in the district G&T program by the G&T Coordinator. Student needs in the program will
be regulated each marking period by the Gifted and Talented Coordinator.

Timeline for Identification

District personnel will conduct evaluations as required. Nominations need to be received by the
Gifted and Talented Coordinator, ideally prior to April 1st for the upcoming school year.
Evaluations and parent notification of placement will be completed within 60 school days of the
receipt of the nomination.
Teachers may nominate students for Gifted and Talented services at any point during the school
year for review.

Continuum of Services

Students are identified in grades K-8 with a process including multiple measures and
cognitive evaluations, such as the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test. Identification process
includes the screening of all students including ELL learners, students with IEPs and 504s.
Identified students receive grade appropriate curricular and instructional modifications
including enrichment activities within the district and Hunterdon County.
